Gavin Rossdale Photos - Performing Live at Anthology

Thursday, November 13, 2008 18:23

Gavin Rossdale performed live at Anthology on July 17 as part of the SOPHIE’S LOUNGE Private Concert series. Click here to view the full photo gallery.

The photographer, Paul Parks, writes:

You know how every now and then you here about these obscure intimate concerts that usualy go on during the day when youre at work. Usualy its a show before the night of a show type of show. And usually with a radio station putting it on ;-) Anthology has put on a bunch of these this summer, in cojunction with FM Sophie@103.7 The best of these….oh yes and let me say Anthology has transformed themselves for these shows. They went from classy Jazz Club setting to….classy intimate lounge setting ;-) But the best of these shows for my money was Gavin Rossdale. Formerly of the group BUSH and now doing his solo thing, performed at Anthology in a sort of “Story Tellers” type of show, where the Sophie DJ would ask questions to Gavin between songs. And please dont call Gavin “Mr. Gwen Stefani”…..for Gavin its alllll about the music. The DJ lady resisted the temptation to go down the “Hows Gwen ” route….which did keep it all about the music :-) He passionately played some BUSH and some of his new stuff.

Don’t miss the video!

LET FREEDOM ROCK - TAYLOR GUITARS and JASON MRAZ RALLY FOR THE LIBERTY TREE GUITARS

World-renowned Taylor Guitars is proud to announce its partnership with platinum selling artist, Jason Mraz, for the release of their Limited Edition Liberty Tree Guitar.

The story of the Liberty Tree is a Classic American Tale. Secret freedom rallies were held around chosen trees and poles in each of the 13 colonies. The wood from the last standing “Liberty Tree” succumbed to natural forces - and was nearly lost forever - until one smart contractor salvaged it from becoming mulch. Bob Taylor, co-founder of Taylor Guitars and long-time American history buff, eagerly stepped in and created the now legendary Liberty Tree Guitar in 2002. These limited release acoustic guitars sold out in record time but in 2005 Taylor came up with a way to use the remaining remnants of this historic wood. Introducing the T5!! The thinline, hollow body, electric/acoustic hybrid is a must have for history buffs or music lovers!

Watch Jason’s live performance of “I’m Yours,” which features him playing the historic Liberty Tree T-5.

About the Taylor Liberty Tree Guitar
The beginning of the Liberty Tree T5 - from the collectible Builder’s Reserve series -dates back to the Revolutionary War. Patriots chose trees in each of the colonies to hold secret rally meetings to drum up support for freedom from the rule of England and individual liberty. The last standing “Liberty Tree,” an enormous tulip poplar in Annapolis, Maryland, succumbed to natural forces in 1999. The wood was nearly lost forever until one smart contractor salvaged the lumber from its destiny as mulch or pencil sets. Bob Taylor, owner of Taylor Guitars and long-time American History buff, bought the wood and manufactured 400 Taylor Liberty Tree limited edition acoustic guitars. These collectors’ items sold out in record time. Unlucky music aficionados lamented the lost chance to own a piece of American and music history.

Two facts saved the day. The leftover pieces were suitable for the back of a guitar, but no sides remained. But Taylor could not bring himself to throw away the tiny bit of remaining wood and chose to store it just in case. Then, in 2005, Taylor introduced the highly acclaimed T5, a hollow body electric/acoustic hybrid guitar that’s built from a body of sapele and a top of spruce, maple or other hardwood, in this case, the Liberty Tree Tulip Poplar. “Then it came to me that we have just enough Liberty Tree wood left to make a very limited number of T5s - 50 to be exact.” said Taylor. “Fifty guitars for 50 states — how fitting a tribute to American history is that?”

Each Liberty Tree T5 is individually identified by the name of a state, with a corresponding serial number to designate the order in which the state entered the Union. The guitar’s design retains some key elements from the original Liberty Tree Guitar: a stylized, hand-inlaid Revolutionary period battle banner drapes its shoulder; a post-Revolution American flag is
unfurled on the peghead; mother-of-pearl star inlays decorate the fretboard and battle banner; additional Liberty Tree wood makes a decorative “backstrap” on the headstock, and a laser-cut Liberty Tree shape that is inlaid on the maple back panel, with the word “Liberty” etched in elegant lasered script just beneath it. The vintage-style “Gotoh” tuners and other hardware sport an antique gold finish, and each Liberty Tree T5 will come in a custom case. Suggested list price is $10,000.

Builder’s Reserve
The first Builder’s Reserve guitars were a small batch of Bastogne walnut SolidBody guitars released in January 2008. Each Builder’s Reserve guitar comes with a custom photo book signed by Bob Taylor that documents the build process, history and origin of the special woods used for that particular guitar.

About Jason Mraz
Like the Taylor Liberty Tree Guitar, singer-songwriter Jason Mraz is an American original. His new hit single, “I’m Yours,” was a fan favorite even before it was officially released on his new album “We Sing. We Dance. We Steal.” Written in 2004 while working on his “Mr. A-Z” album, a demo of the song leaked to the public and instantly found a place in the hearts of fans around the world, many of whom recorded their own covers on YouTube. The song was Jason’s first Billboard Top 100 hit–the song placed #10 on the list–and his international fans can be treated to live versions as he continues his current world tour.

Born in Virginia, Jason gained a loyal following while performing his Thursday night gigs at Java Joe’s coffeehouse in San Diego’s Ocean Beach. His major-label debut, “Waiting for My Rocket to Come,” was a smash success with such hits as “Remedy (I Won’t Worry),” “You & I Both” and “Curbside Prophet.” With new widespread exposure, Jason’s music won fans and critical acclaim for the clever wordplay of his lyrics combined with infectious pop melodies. He followed up with the critically hailed album “Mr. A-Z,” which includes the hit single “Wordplay,” and his song “One Love” was featured in a Gap commercial.
