The photographer, Paul Parks, writes:

Howard Jones was one of the defining figures of mid-’80s synth-pop. Jones’ music merged the technology-intensive sound of new wave with the cheery optimism of hippies and late-’60s pop. Jones racked up a string of hits in the mid- and late ’80s before he retreated into being a cult figure in the ’90s. Several years ago he was a part of one of the best line-ups for Ringo Star’s All Star band. Get this line-up….Ringo, Greg Lake (Emerson Lake & Palmer) , Roger Hodgson (Supertramp’s singer songwriter), Ian Hunter (Mott The Hoople), Mark Rivera on Sax (Billy Joel), Sheila E on percussion and Howard Jones on synth. Since that tour Howard Jones has been back on the touring circuit. His show at Anthology was huge arena type sound in the most intimate of venues :-)

The photographer, Paul Parks, writes:

With its roots in gospel, doo wop, and the sophisticated jazz-influenced singing groups of mid-century America like the Hi-Los, the a cappella vocal group Take 6 is both a throwback to an earlier, more genteel era of American music and a precursor for a number of black male pop groups of the ’90s, such as Boyz II Men. Take 6 laid down their smooth romantic rhythms at Anthology :-)

The photographer, Paul Parks, writes:

Is it true that Anthology changed their name to “The Legends Club” ! ? :-p Noooooo….its not true but Anthology has become the club…..of Legends ! When I mention names like Wynton Marsalis and brother Branford Marsalis…or McCoy Tyner, Bill Charlap, Ravi Coltrane, Peter Bernstien and the late great Freddie Hubbard…..what do they all have in common ? They have all either played, or in the case of Branford Marsalis are coming to perform at Anthology ! The most recent group of greats to grace the Anthology stage were Bill Charlap, Peter Bernstein, Ravi Coltrane, Lewis Nash, Nicholas Payton, Peter Washington & Steve Wilson, on their Blue Note records 70th Anniversary tour. Since it was launched in 1939 by childhood friends Alfred Lion and Francis Wolff, Blue Note Records has been the premier label in jazz, recording the greatest artists of the genre. Blue Note’s catalog of music features an impressive array of legendary performances and a core list of “must-have” releases that indelibly marked the history of jazz. To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Blue Note legacy, this all-star band featuring some of today’s finest musicians performed at Anthology and celebrated this rich treasure trove of music. Led by Blue Note Records artist and pianist, Bill Charlap, the group will explored classic tunes by Bud Powell, Thelonious Monk, Horace Silver, Herbie Hancock, Lee Morgan, Wayne Shorter, and many others.

Anthology…..The Legends Club :-) I think so ;-)

Gavin Rossdale Photos - Performing Live at Anthology

Gavin Rossdale performed live at Anthology on July 17 as part of the SOPHIE’S LOUNGE Private Concert series. Click here to view the full photo gallery.

The photographer, Paul Parks, writes:

You know how every now and then you here about these obscure intimate concerts that usualy go on during the day when youre at work. Usualy its a show before the night of a show type of show. And usually with a radio station putting it on ;-) Anthology has put on a bunch of these this summer, in cojunction with FM Sophie@103.7 The best of these….oh yes and let me say Anthology has transformed themselves for these shows. They went from classy Jazz Club setting to….classy intimate lounge setting ;-) But the best of these shows for my money was Gavin Rossdale. Formerly of the group BUSH and now doing his solo thing, performed at Anthology in a sort of “Story Tellers” type of show, where the Sophie DJ would ask questions to Gavin between songs. And please dont call Gavin “Mr. Gwen Stefani”…..for Gavin its alllll about the music. The DJ lady resisted the temptation to go down the “Hows Gwen ” route….which did keep it all about the music :-) He passionately played some BUSH and some of his new stuff.

Don’t miss the video!

Ottmar Liebert performed live at Anthology 3 nights in a row this summer - on July 3rd, 4th and 5th. Click here to view the full photo gallery.

The photographer, Paul Parks, writes:

Ottmar Liebert already has this special sound to his guitar. Besides that great musicianship…..he also wins ‘best intimate candles on the stage thing with a Persian rug’, over any artist, at his Anthology show this summer.
