SAN DIEGO, CALIF., Oct. 23 \u2013 Jazz great Toots Thielemans<\/strong>\u2014is coming to Anthology on Sat Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. & Sun. Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m. Thielemans will perform with the Kenny Werner Trio<\/strong>, which also includes Kenny Werner on piano\/synthesizer and Oscar Castro-Neves on guitar. <\/p>\n

If you\u2019ve ever watched \u201cSesame Street<\/strong>\u201d or heard \u201cMoon River<\/strong>\u201d from \u201cBreakfast at Tiffany\u2019s\u201d\u2014you\u2019ve heard Toots Thielemans\u2019 harmonica artistry. A seasoned jazz guitarist also known for his accomplished professional whistling, Thielemans is often credited by jazz critics and aficionados as being the greatest jazz harmonica player of the past century. <\/p>\n

Born in Brussels in 1922, Thielemans got his start as a guitar player and had the good fortune to join a jam session in Paris with luminaries Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Max Roach, Sidney Bechert<\/strong> and others in 1949. Three years later, he moved to the U.S. to join Charlie Parker\u2019s All-Stars. He\u2019s played and recorded with Ella Fitzgerald, Billy Joel, Paul Simon, Quincy Jones and a roster of other musical heavyweights. <\/p>\n

\u201cBluesette\u201d\u2014a song in which Thielemans played guitar and whistled in unison, released in 1962\u2014was a worldwide hit. In addition to setting the aural scene for \u201cBreakfast at Tiffany\u2019s\u201d with his plaintive harmonica playing, Thieleman can be heard on scores for movies such as \u201cMidnight Cowboy,\u201d \u201cBaghdad Caf\u00c8\u201d and \u201cFrench Kiss,\u201d and in Billy Joel\u2019s \u201cLeave a Tender Moment Alone.\u201d <\/p>\n

Thielemans continues to perform and record\u2014his 1998 album, \u201cChez Toots,\u201d featuring Johnny Mathis, is a perennial high-seller. <\/p>\n

In October, Thielemans was honored with the 2009 National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters Fellowship. <\/strong><\/p>\n
